In need of cancer treatment? You wouldn't look confused if your oncologist recommended chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery.
Struggling with insomnia disorder? If the 4 letters C, B, T, and I don't immediately ring a bell as the #1 recommended, most-effective treatment (yup, before any sleeping meds are considered), then you're in the same boat that I was in for 21 years.
It took me stumbling ass backwards into the field of sleep medicine to learn I'd been doing insomnia wrong.
6 weeks later, my 126 week struggle was over.
Ya, it took behavior change, but not that much. A few simple principles and an explanation for why they worked was the ticket.
This ultimately put me on the path to becoming a specialist in behavioral sleep medicine and spending over 90%of my clinical time treating chronic insomnia with CBT-I. And I absolutely love it :)
So, that's my story.
For some reason, insomnia has the problem that diabetes and cancer don't. All 3 disorders have consensus agreement about the most effective treatments.
Only insomnia seems to have a spreading-the-word problem.
